“Individual pieces, modest in scale, are at the heart of my work. I concentrate on unobtrusively conveying a sense of liveliness (as in the mystery and experience of being alive). To my mind, the best pots are both understated and outspoken, and seem both new and familiar at the same time. They make themselves useful.

Most pieces are woodfired. The wood-fired work is complemented by Tiny Plate World Headquarters, wheel-thrown and hand-painted tiny plates.

I am currently working on tessellations, images and shapes that connect with one another without gaps in between, and when not in the studio, I am out gathering locally dug wild clay to test and develop.

My Instagram friend, Joanna McPherson @bluebearvendingco, and I completed a year-long collaborative project by publishing a book, “the 72 tiny plate and haiku microseasons” in which each page features a haiku by Joanna paired with a tiny plate by me to illustrate it. This gorgeous little volume, designed by Spicer Digital, is in its third printing, available in March 2022.”
