ISABELLA GONZALES

I grew up in El Paso, Texas - a city on the border with Mexico. My family life was diverse and complex much like my physical surroundings. I lived in a large apartment house with blood relatives occupying many of the apartments and surrogate relatives occupying the rest. Much of the family was still across the border, so many of my earliest memories are of Cuidad Juarez. In many instances, my work mimics the way I assembled all those little parts into the larger whole of my personality. My work is a process of connecting personal events to a shared experience. "Trigger awareness - change perception" is the cornerstone of what I'm trying to achieve. I work primarily, but not exclusively, with porcelain and wire and prefer to approach each piece from a conceptual place rather than focusing on a specific material.
